Drum Rhythm Healing-Drumming for Connection

This is a very spiritual and human method of healing and consciousness expansion that originates from humanity's earliest social experiences, when people sat around fires and beat on logs for rhythm. Before there was the spoken word, there was rhythm. Before there was the written word, there was rhythm. Before there was any organized consideration of the human condition, drumming served to sooth and communicate- working it's visceral way over that carrier wave that connects all life that we call the universal energy.

We are trained (by Remo Drums) as Healing Rhythm Drum Facilitators, and are excited to offer more than the standard community drum gathering. We utilize a method of community drumming that is fun, relaxed and non threatening; facilitating with a proven protocol established by Dr Barry Bitterman and Remo Drums.

We all carry pain or anger, either springing from current or past unmet needs, or from that endless variety of sources that are all part of the process of life. Over time, we humans have developed many methods for dealing with this pain or anger. Most choose to bury their issues, numbing themselves when the problems try to resurface from the subconscious chamber we've locked them away in. We numb ourselves through substance usage or behaviors that are at best a temporary Band-Aid. But burying our issues is very much like trying to hold a beach ball under water! It takes more effort in the long run to hold the pressure back than it is to just deal with it, feel the pain, and heal. How complex we are!

Some people have had so much failure in their lives that they come to identify themselves as being "no good." A cycle of negative self-reinforcement occurs, often resulting in low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger problems and acting out.

The personal power awakened by drumming helps to rebuild a sense of empowerment and self worth. The repetitive rhythm has a physiologically calming effect. It also builds valuable skills for processing and communicating information, and containing or channeling intense emotions and impulses. Drumming somehow connects us to dormant emotions and unexplainable feelings of excitement, peace, and ecstasy. It decreases depression, anxiety, and stress, boosts immune system functioning and benefits physical health.

Did you know that...

Drumming is good for your immune system -- it is a fact that sound waves have a profound effect on the cells of our bodies. Ultrasound is used for healing scar tissue and reducing inflammation. Classical music is played for babies to help brain and nerve development. Our immune systems will produce more disease fighting cells when exposed to a 3/4-waltz beat. When it comes to drumming, you can create many different beats and realize an equal number of effects.  One basic drum technique is to mimic a heartbeat and get lost in the simplicity of it. It can be that easy.

Drumming is good for your mental health -- ever want to pound on something and scream? Ever feel anxious or shaky from the adrenaline in your system?  Have you ever experienced stress? If you answered yes to one or more of the above, then may I suggest that you come to a drumming circle where you can pound along with other people just like yourself! The release is phenomenal! It's as if you were packing up your tension and troubles and sending them off with the sound waves. Creating music with drums is an active form of meditation. Often in the drum state-of-mind questions are answered, problems are solved, and clarity is achieved because the thinking (left) brain is put on hold and we allow our intuitive (right) brain to rule for a little while.

Drumming is good for your spirit -- expressing yourself in a free-form, non-judgmental, improvisational environment like a drum circle can allow you to tap into a very strong spiritual connections. It's primitive. It's basic.  It's part of us.

"A drum is a voice, alive and feeling as with any voice. When it speaks, then we must listen and honor the message with our best and noblest selves, for it is a voice with great power and it is a voice that is a gift to us from a greater being. If we do this, then our lives will be full and happy. If we do not listen but pay disrespect, then our lives will have dishonor." --Louis W. Ballard, Quapaw-Cherokee
