We love spiritual practices that have "Rhythm"
While I am not directly descended from African roots, Native Indians, or from ancient Celtic drumming druids, (as far as I know, but I'm open to discovering I might be any of the above!), I am very interested in the human based spirituality to be found in many of their wonderful traditions. We are constantly on the search for ideas to plagiarize from many cultures around the world that might be energy based or shamanistic, humanist, African, Celtic, Gaian, Jedi Knight .... or any such thing that connects us together as the simple, spiritual human beings that we are. So, as Spiritual Bohemians and card carrying Beach Hippies, and as a member of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and as Healing Rhythm Drum Facilitators, we Beachpeople are pleased and excited to offer the following options to any wedding that we perform! (And the list will keep on growing!) Talking sticks.. As we are also believers in human touch, and of the bridges and connections that result, we have several ceremonies of Hand Fasting and just simple hand holding! Drumming Options! We drum for connection in your wedding, and this is why. We offer many ways to include drumming in your
ceremony! Yes, we've heard the fear (mostly from grooms) over shyness about
playing a drum in front of everyone, even though they might like to hear one
played, they are too scared to try it themselves.
So to have drumming be a part of your wedding ceremony, we have developed some novel ideas to evangelize this marvelous tool of our ancient human spirituality for for hum-drumless masses! We can have a full blown drum circle before, during, or after your ceremony. We can have a very fun and romantic activity between the bride and groom, called Two Hearts as One. We can have a drumming processional and/or recessional! We can have some or all of us play a quick and fun session with any combination of simple frame drums, bells, claves, boom-whackers, a thunder tube, maraca shakers... and just see where the spirit leads us! C'mon, where is your sense of adventure!
We can play some 22" buffalo
drums together to ask for the Blessing of the 4
Directions, and to make some general noise incase any of your guests have
dozed off.
I've also recently purchased some talking drums. Talking drums are smaller and quieter than the djembe drum, and get their name from the tonal range (voices) with which it can speak by squeezing and releasing the vertical strings (holding between the arm and the body) to tighten and loosen the heads. Most are double headed and are struck by a special curved stick. With these fine West African instruments, the couple can really let the drums do the talking!
