What's so hot about drumming? Why have this in a wedding ceremony?

Good questions! And I have some good answers.

First of all, on your wedding day, I think it's safe to say that you both will be nervous wrecks! And that is a shame because this special event will only happen one time in your whole lives together! You both will be seeking some unique things on this day.... a connection with each other, a connection with the spiritual, and perhaps even a connection with a community of friends and family. You would like this connection to be fun and exciting, and maybe even somewhat larger than life! I can honestly say that when drums and people come together, most people discover a sense of wonder, excitement, and even euphoria! The credit belongs to that good ole sacred yet simple drum, which has the extraordinary power to touch something deep and powerful within us all. It's an aspect of ourselves that lies dormant until it hears an ancient calling through rhythm. The drum touches that part of us that knows nothing of cell phones, faxes, or deadlines. This part of us to which the drum speaks knows only inner peace, self expression, and that which is our basic life-force. Drumming creates an island in time, where all else is shut out, and your true feelings find connection with the greater spirit and energy that permeates us all.

Our soul is fed through connecting heart to heart with others, and the rhythm we make when we play the drum with another is like an aural touch, yet the connection goes much deeper. It can even be likened to a soul embrace! What better way to experience a sense of intimacy with others, and what better experience to have during a joining of two people into one! And in our society, full and total expression through connection on any level is an extraordinary gift, for many of us censor out thoughts and hold back our feelings. The drum gives us an opportunity to share freely without feeling uncomfortable. We both play and listen, and thereby give and receive uncritically.
