To reserve Greenfield Lake Park, Rose Garden, Fragrance Garden and Hugh
McRae Park.
Greenfield Gardens constitutes a
true "People's Park." The five-fingered lake, bordered by stately
moss-draped cypress, attracts many visitors in all seasons, but the gardens
reach their peak beauty in the early spring when millions of azaleas blanket
the park with colorful hues. Each spring the gardens are viewed by
thousands of visitors as the city stages its annual Azalea Festival.
All of this natural beauty is mirrored
by the reflective waters of the 150-acre lake. While the azalea is the
reigning beauty of this park, native trees and shrubs grow in profusion;
colorful camellias, towering live oaks, magnolias, redbud, crepe myrtle and
dogwood along with thousands of jonquils, daffodils, tulips and seasonal
landscaped areas.
Greenfield Gardens has achieved its
far-reaching name during the past decade through the continual
beautification efforts of the Parks Division of the City of Wilmington.
With it's yearly temperature of 65 degrees, lots of sunshine, a minimum of
harsh weather and the attraction of the ocean beaches....all contribute to
Wilmington's appeal to visitors as well as to those desiring an ideal spot
for retirement. The park is easily accessible...with travel from all
directions through interesting country with historical background.
Travelers can reach Wilmington from Norfolk, 254 miles; Richmond, 251 miles;
